Apprentice star Christopher Farrell off ‘to fight pirates’ after escaping jail Former Apprentice contestant Christopher Farrell says he now plans to head to Sri Lanka to fight Somali pirates after he avoided jail for fraud. Speaking afterwards he said he was ‘really sorry’ about the incident and that it was ‘something I deeply regret’. Outside court, Farrell said: ‘I am wanting to put it behind me and move on with my life and I would like to thank everyone for their support during a tough time in my life.’ He added: ‘There has been a lot of stress caused, self-inflicted, but I am glad it’s all over and out of the way and looking forward to the future. ‘I fly out to Sri Lanka on Monday protecting the ships from Somali pirates.’ Farrell had been accused of inflating clients’ incomes to help them secure loans and earn himself commission. The ex-Royal Marine, who hails from Wirral, received a nine-month sentence, which was suspended for two years, at Plymouth Crown Court. He was also sentenced to 200 hours community service. Farrell was arrested last August and originally claimed his colleagues were responsible for forging documents, however, he entered a guilty plea to the charges in December. Prosecutor David Gittins told the court: ‘The Crown’s case is that Mr Farrell obtained mortgages for clients fraudulently by falsifying their incomes, although it is important to note that he did so without their knowledge to ensure lenders granted mortgages and thus ensuring he reached his monthly target.’ Farrell was fired by Lord Alan Sugar in week eight of series six of The Apprentice last year. The self-professed ‘focused and driven’ candidate was on the losing team in the task which saw the two sides competing to create a new flavour of crisps to sell to the German market. Stella English was the eventual winner of the series, beating Chris Bates in the final. Shortly after landing the £100,000 job with Sir Alan, Stella announced she had got engaged to her long-term partner, scaffolder Ray Dewar.
